Eighteen-year-old Cheyenne, Wyoming resident Jacob Torres, who was allegedly driving at a high speed when he crashed his car into a tree, killing his 16-year-old passenger, was taken into police custody on Friday, November 22 and is now facing one felony count of aggravated vehicular homicide-reckless driving charges.
A preliminary hearing for Torres’ case occurred on Thursday, December 5.
According to the police, Torres was driving at between 69 miles per hour (mph) and 94 mph before his vehicle crashed on June 8 north in the left lane of the 4100 block of Warren Avenue. The speed limit in the area is 30 mph.
His passenger, 16-year-old Chance Garcia, died at the scene of the accident.
